Documents Needed to Register a Death
Before a funeral can usually take place, the death must be registered with the local register office.
You may be asked to provide:
- The Medical Certificate Cause of Death (issued by the doctor or hospital)
- The deceased's NHS number or NHS medical card (if available)
- Birth certificate (if available)
- Marriage or civil partnership certificate (if applicable)
- Proof of address
- Details of the deceased's occupation
- The full name, date of birth, and address of the deceased
- Details of any surviving spouse or civil partner
The registrar will also ask for information about the person who is registering the death.
